The New World of RNA based Medicine
The New World of RNA based Medicine
CircRNAs are highly stable compared to linear RNAs. They are resistant to degradation by RNA-degrading enzymes and can persist in cells for longer periods. This stability makes them attractive as therapeutic agents since they can provide a sustained and long-lasting effect.
CircRNAs have been found to play important roles in gene regulation. They can act as microRNA sponges, sequestering and inhibiting the activity of microRNAs that would otherwise downregulate target genes. By manipulating circRNA expression or function, it may be possible to modulate gene expression patterns and restore normal cellular functions disrupted in diseases.
The unique circular structure of circRNAs presents opportunities for the development of innovative therapeutic modalities. For example, circRNAs can be engineered to carry small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) or antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) to specifically target disease-related genes or pathways.
HercRNA uses a cell-specific trigger to circularize and deliver its therapeutic payload, improving the precision of the medicine and reducing side effects.
Although the field of circRNA therapeutics is still in its early stages, the growing understanding of circRNA biology and the development of advanced technologies for circRNA manipulation hold promise for the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
The potential application of circular RNA (circRNA) in colorectal cancer treatment is an area of ongoing research. Precision targeting of cancers cells, while leaving normal tissue untouched is our first lead direction.
